Donovan McNabb
McNabb a steal in 2008?
When it comes to Fantasy Football, the Quarterback position is a little like the luxury car market…there are those who are definitely looking at a Benz or a Lexus, and then there are those just looking for heated leather seats and wood trim…even if it comes in a Hyundai.

There’s no doubt that 50 touchdowns and 4800 yards is well worth an early first round pick, and there’s no doubt that 36 touches and 4200 yards is a bargain in the late second, or early third…but that was last year folks, back when Tom Brady was going in the fifth and sixth round, and Tony Romo was going even later.

Every year, following a good year certain players become overvalued.
On the flipside, every year following a bad year, or even a sub-par year certain players are undervalued…where they end up relative to last years output is anyone’s guess and the gambling makes draft day that much more exciting…but let’s face it, superhuman QB’s are often the product of a system, and it doesn’t take long for opposing Defensive Coordinators to figure them out (does Kurt Warner ring a bell?)

It certainly looked as though the Giants found the blueprints on Tom Brady (unless they videotaped a walkthrough and we don’t know it). As for ole “Romosexual”, he could easily become a victim of his own playing style in the very near future, and may have to holster those six-shooters a bit…even if he does play in Texas.

Now, even with the anticipated drop in production this year, both remain top-tier QB’s…but as early as these guys are going this time around, you won’t see “Value” written across their windshields in shoe polish…take one of them, and you can expect to be thin somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong, Brady and Romo are still the darlings of the TMZ draft board, but experienced players look for value, and this year it could very well be D-Mac himself.

Pundits will revert to the old “injury prone” label and scoff at his chances of playing an entire year healthy, but is it really fair to call him injury “prone?” There’s no doubt that McNabb has missed some significant time the past few years but the guy is tough as nails…injury “susceptible” maybe, only that’s sort of how QB’s roll…if you get your ass kicked as badly as McNabb has, you’re bound to miss some time. If what we’ve seen out of camp is any indication of what we’ll see in the regular season, then McNabb is back…his mobility, the zip on the ball…all Philly has to do now is protect him better.

Donovan may not have the receivers of a Brady (although the Eagles did make a bid for him) or a Romo (been there, done that) but he’s also not as dependent on them either…not to mention that other guy in Philly who was supposedly injury prone, and the five or six receiving touchdowns he is sure to turn in this year… last I checked, those count for McNabb too.

The last time D-Mac looked this good in training camp was ’04, when he had 34 touchdowns and 4000 yards…now it’s unlikely he’ll match those totals (the aforementioned missing presence) but for a guy going in the seventh or eighth round, he may just be that Lexus-Powered Hyundai you’ve been dreaming of.
