One of our best inventions in terms of fantasy football is our strength of schedule feature. While all sites produce a strength of schedule ranking it is simply based on wins and losses and doesn't offer a great deal of information or have much value for fantasy footballers. Our strength of schedule which again was invented here by myself, is one of the best weapons you can use on a weekly basis and could be the difference in why you draft one WR over another in the 7th round of your draft. Lets look at some examples this time focusing in on the NFC West.
Arizona Cardinals W/L In terms of W/L the Cardinals have the easiest schedule as the teams they will play this year finished around .445 last year, but lets look at the more important details. RYD SOS The Cardinals have a fairly easy schedule against the run ranking 25th overall, Hightower and Wells will have some good chances for big games against the Raiders and the Rams to start the year. PYD SOS The pass schedule opens up nicely for either Leinart or Anderson as the Cards have the 27th ranked schedule against the pass. Now all the need is a QB.
San Francisco 49ers W/L In terms of W/L the Giants have a very easy schedule as the teams they will play this year finished around .457 last year. RYD SOS Based on the schedule the 49ers run game and Frank Gore could have a very big year, he faces the 27th ranked run schedule this year. PYD SOS The pass schedule here should be good for Alex Smith, to start the year Smith faces a very easy schedule against the pass with games against the Seahawks, Saints, Chiefs and Falcons to open the year.
Seattle Seahawks W/L In terms of W/L the Eagles will face a very easy schedule as their opponents finished with a .474 W/L last year. RYD SOS No clear cut winner at RB here, but whether it is Leon Washington or Justin Forsett here, they will face the second easiest run schedule, so some good upside here. PYD SOS Matt Hasselbeck will have a moderate schedule against the pass facing the 16th ranked pass schedule this year.
St. Louis Rams W/L In terms of W/L the Rams will face a fairly easy schedule as their opponents finished with a W/L of .449. RYD SOS Much like the rest of the division, the Rams will face a fairly easy schedule against the run this year, that's very good news for Steven Jackson. PYD SOS Lots of weak opponents against the pass for the Rams, but with Bradfor a rookie likely to start and the Rams very thin at WR, upside is limited here.
Strength of Schedule is a regular feature available in Dr. Stats Fantasy Football Insider. Updated weekly during the season, it is a key tool in evaluating future player value and upcoming matchups. View a demo here |
